Good Old Movie

Instead of watching a movie in the theather like we usually do every Friday night, we decided to just stay in the house and find a good movie on TV. Although most movies on the list are old, we found one which we both agreed to watch. I remember "Ghost" became so popular in the Philippines. My dad even bought a VHS copy and my whole family kept on watching the movie over and over again. I was still in grade school then. How time flies so fast. But I'm wondering how come Demi Moore still looks the same. Maybe a young lover keeps her youthful beauty. Anyway, good old movie like this is great to watch. It made our night.

27 Dresses

I watched the movie with a friend today. It's a good movie but I hate the part where she had to reveal her sister's secrets which upsets the fiance and decided not to push through the wedding. I can't do something like this to a friend how much more to a dear sister.

Jane (Katherine Heigl) is a 29 year old New Yorker who has been a bridesmaid 27 times. She believes it's her calling to make people happy on the happiest day in their life. She has a serious problem with saying "No." Jane works as a magazine assistant and is "secretly" in love with her friendly boss, George (Edward Burns). Unfortunately for Jane, George falls for Jane's self-centered sister, Tess (Malin Akerman). When the happy couple gets engaged, Jane becomes the maid of honor and is expected to plan her sister's wedding. To make the story short, she ended up with a wedding reporter from a New York Journal. After 27 times of being a bridesmaid, she becomes a bride finally.

Good Old Movies

I borrowed five DVD movies last week. Since I don't have to pay a single cent for borrowing from the public library, I always take advantage of getting as many stuffs as I want. They don't really care how many as long as you'll return them on time.

• The Secret Garden, I loved this movie when I was still a kid. It's a timeless tale of a special place where magic, hope and love grow. It's a special garden where friendships blossom, illnesses fade away and sorrows flee.
• The Scarlet Letter, An epic version of Nathaniel Hawthorne's enduring novel of Puritan America in search of its soul. A woman condememned for a sin of passion must wear forever the scarlet letter "A" on her chest.
• Three Sovereigns for Sarah, A true story of of ninetten people hanged and one old man pressed to death, while hundereds of others suffered in jail cells during the "witch hysteria" of 1962. It is a powerful and moving story of three loving sisters who are accused of withcraft.
• The Turn of the Screw, A good old fashioned ghost story where a naive, young governess is hired by a charming bachelor to look after his two young children in a grand mansion in rural England. She feels she alone can save them from a horrifying fate.
• Terms of Endearment, I like this movie. It's an insightful story of two captivating mother and daughter 30-year relationship. There were some scenes which made me cry because it reminded me of my mother back home in the Philippines. We are super close and we both enjoy shopping and spa. I miss her even more.

Another Favorite

A must see movie! Hubby and I just love it. Last Friday, we were so excited to see this movie and made sure to buy the ticket in advance online. We really didn't mind the long line at the automatic ticket machine and the long wait outside the movie house. It's worth it. One realization after watching it? As the saying goes "No man is an island". Guess, it's true.

Movies & Books

My hubby accompanied me to the library and I got some books and DVD's. I want to take advantage borrowing them for free! Wow, guess I have to go there often knowing I could just grab any book I want or movies to watch. It will save a lot of money compared to buying new ones. I have the list below of the stuffs I got and have to returned them after five days for movies and after three weeks for books. Isn't that great? I really love the idea of getting them for free!!! Nothing beats that.

2. "The Shell Seekers" It's all about a woman's unforgetable odyssey to find her dreams and a last chance for happines.

3. "The Secret Life of Mrs. Beeton" Traces a woman's transformation from young wife, to magazine journalist, to publishing phenomenon.

4. "Therese" The true story of Saint Therese of Lisieux

5. "Sliding Doors" Funny and touching movie.

The Notebook

One of my favorite romantic movies is "The Notebook". I got a book version of it while shopping for clothes yesterday. Though I've seen the movie already like three times, I never think twice to get the book version. You know why? Coz it's sold for $25 cents hehehe... Aside from that I want to read the complete details of the story. I know I feel short-changed watching the story in a movie than reading the book.

I can't wait for the holiday tomorrow. It will be my first time celebrating it with my husband's family. I'm just so excited to meet some of his relatives and I want to see how big really Thanksgiving here in the U.S.
